“I have [known] Dave as a deep thinker and conscientious supporter of free enterprise and biblical principles in the market place. I have found his insight both stimulating and challenging the status quo.”

“I found Dave Doty’s Eden’s Bridge: The Marketplace in Creation and Mission while researching Biblical foundations for Business As Mission (BAM). When I was asked if I would like to invite him to join the global Biblical Models of Transformation Through Business Practices Issue Group, I leapt at the chance to engage him. He became one of the key contributors and the final report of the interest group (available here) draws heavily on his book and long, stimulating discussions with him. I have no doubt that God has used him to influence global thinking about BAM. And I have a new friend.’

“David Doty is thoroughly committed as a disciple of Jesus Christ and as a scholar, writer and communicator in support of the Christian ‘Business As Mission’ movement and related groups and phenomena. He has an extensive background as an entrepreneur and manager of successful businesses, and is a published author in the area of his most essential research–the marketplace as a godly institution with immense and largely untapped capacity to benefit life at every level from the individual to the intercontinental. He sustains worldwide contacts and currency in the field, and is ideally qualified by character, experience, training and networking to serve as an effective mentor or consultant to individuals or organizations seeking to add or create for-profit entities alongside not-for-profit enterprises. I recommend him highly and without reservation to any individual or organization seeking information and assistance in exploring means to create or grow enterprises that honor God and benefit people.”

  1. I think mottoes present challenges to biblically understanding the role of profit in God’s Kingdom plan. The motto oversimplifies all that is involved and runs the risk of poorly understanding the interconnections between spiritual growth and obedience and worldly prosperity. Such conversations require extensive and deep study as well as maturity in Christ.

To respond to your question simply would be to say that it cannot be answered simply, and should not.
