Send Me Away . . . Be One of the Forty

This is an appeal to readers of this blog and of Exchange: The Journal of Mission and Markets. The ministry of Eden’s Bridge, to be a point of connection and communication for marketplace Christians and marketplace ministries, is not a full time job (yet) but includes activities that have related costs. One such is my current involvement in the Lausanne Global Business-as-Mission Think Tank. The Think Tank Congress will convene in Chiang Mai, Thailand the last week of April, 2013. I have been active in (and hopefully significantly contributing to) in the Think Tank’s Advocacy and Mobilization Issue Group. I would very much like to attend the Congress to help finalize plans to reach out to engage increasing numbers of individuals and organizations in bringing the Gospel to the marketplace and especially among the unevangelized global poor.

To attend the Congress and to cover other incidental expenses of Eden’s Bridge, I need to raise $4,000 in the next eight to twelve weeks. That is just forty people or organizations committing to $100.oo (USD) each. Gifts can be made through my web site at via PayPal or checks mailed to the ministry office at Eden’s Bridge, 991 Lancelot Drive, Norcross, GA 30071. All gifts are 100% tax deductible.

The Church is at the forefront of an amazing move of God in the marketplace, a coming movement acknowledged by many prominent evangelical leaders including the likes of Billy Graham. Eden’s Bridge, as a communications link within this movement has the opportunity to help a multitude of people expedite this movement by sharing information and helping push the envelope in missional initiatives and biblical thinking.

Would you please prayerfully consider being One of the Forty who facilitates Eden’s Bridge as we blast into 2013 for the cause of Christ?

I pray that you are well as you read this and that you have a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous, godly New Year.

Eden’s Bridge: Ministry Activity

Friends –

First, I am excited to announce the pending release of the first issue of Exchange: The Journal of Mission and Markets. It will be made available in .pdf format right here at in the next week or two. Unlike many journals which restrict contributions, Exchange will be an open forum for discussing leading edge ideas including articles by business practitioners, mission agency leaders, business-as-mission and economics scholars, pastors, and lay people. The focus is obviously on economic issues in mission work, but may include some surprises along the way.

I have just accepted a full time position to help a contractor raise funds for World Vision via child sponsorships. While I admire what World Vision does around the world, with this job I am able to compound the good we can accomplish. A considerable amount of the wages I will earn are committed to helping pay for a two week mission trip in April / May.

The first leg of the trip will take me to Chiang Mai, Thailand where I will participate in the Lausanne Global Business-as-Mission (BAM) Think Tank Congress, a gathering of more than 300 BAM leaders from dozens of agencies the world, the largest gathering of its kind in history. The aims of this Congress are information sharing of data and best practices, finalize global advocacy and mobilization programs, and design collaborative work and initiative strategies between agencies.

After four days in Thailand, I will journey on to Aurangabad, India for a working four-day visit with Life Light Ministries which operates an orphanage, two Christian schools (with many Hindu and Muslim students), a church planting team (now supporting nine local churches), and a street ministry to the poor and lepers. I serve on the Executive Board of Life Light as the Director of Staff and Organizational Development. I will be conferring with the staff leadership on long range strategic planning and the staff generally on job skills development.

While I can make a significant contribution to the costs of this trip and other Eden’s Bridge ministry costs of the coming year, I still need to raise about $4,000 by the end of February. Would you please prayerfully consider how you may be able to help? Gifts to Eden’s Bridge, Inc. may be mailed directly to me at 991 Lancelot Drive, Norcross, GA 30071, or given via PayPal to the email address.

As always, I also covet your prayers that our efforts, yours and mine together, will glorify God. Thank you. God bless you and I pray you have a Merry Christmas and fulfilling New Year.

I am seeking opportunities to speak to small groups of marketplace Christians and churches, with particular focus on the biblical theology of the marketplace developed in my book, Eden’s Bridge: The Marketplace in Creation and Mission (see also my blog at

Eden’s Bridge Ministry Launch

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. – Isaiah 40:31

Today, my strength has been renewed!

This is to let you know that the waiting has come to fruition. Most of you know that I have committed much of the last ten years to research and writing on the integration of faith and economics. This past January, Wipf & Stock Publishers released my book, Eden’s Bridge: The Marketplace in Creation and Mission. Later that same month, God gave me a vision for the ministry that was to follow. Since then, I have waited for the right timing, listening to the Lord for His “now is the time.” That “now” came this morning while meeting with a new but very dear friend and brother in Christ, John Caldwell.

Now is the time to launch the Eden’s Bridge Business and Ministry Institute. The aim of the institute is to empower small businesses among the world’s poor through connecting them with the necessary resources to succeed. These necessary resources include knowledge even more than capital but the hope is to connect the church in developed economies and neighborhoods with those who need their helping hand. A big first step is pending as I will attend the Lausanne Global Business as Mission Think Tank North American Group meeting this coming Friday (08/24) here in Atlanta.

The first step is to incorporate as a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit. To do so, I am requesting that you prayerfully consider contributing toward the $1,000.00 needed to file with the State of Georgia and the IRS. I am only asking for pledges toward that amount today such that, when I am ready to file, I can ensure the tax deductibility of your gift. That is when I will ask, in the coming weeks, for the fulfillment of your pledges.

Pledges can be made simply by emailing back to me.

Honestly, this is a day that I wondered if would ever come. Now I am rejuvenated and excited to move forward.

Thank you and may God bless you today in all that He has placed before you.

Prayer Request: Crossing a Bridge

I will be formally launching (incorporating) Eden’s Bridge Ministry in the coming months. Partnering with Poverty Cure (an Acton Institute business as mission initiative) and working with the the Lausanne BAM Think Tank (with Rudy Carrasco of Partners Worldwide and the Christian Community Development Association) for the coming year to compile data and generate reports on North American Kingdom companies and BAM ministries.

Eden’s Bridge will be focused as an information brokerage and BAM mobilization ministry to help network and serve the multitude of ministries and businesses seeking to advance the Kingdom of God through marketplace relationships, and providing educational materials and resources on BAM to the church at-large. I would welcome any opportunity to speak on the theology of the marketplace, business as mission, and engagement opportunities for marketplace Christians to help this movement forward.

Particular prayer needs are for financial support, travel provision and mercies, and volunteer web site hosting and development expertise. Busy, busy! all to the glory of God.

Stay tuned for developing news!

Devotionals Available for Android

I have started writing devotionals for an Android app called Beyond Daily Bible Devotion. The original app (Daily Bible Devotion) is free from and offers very short devotionals (approximately 100 words including a verse from Scripture). The Beyond app is $2.99 and will offer considerably more depth. The first couple of months worth already in the queue are about 300 words but I am ramping up those that will start appearing around June 25th and beyond due to popular request. Most of them will be 500-700 words. This gives me a lot more flexibility in exploring words in the original Hebrew and Greek, contextual issues of the time of writing, tying more Scripture together, etc.

I am always open to addressing specific questions and issues about Scripture or theological issues and welcome input. As much as possible, I want to be as responsive to readers as I can so your input will have a great deal of influence.

Also, in the next few months, the Beyond app will be made available for Apple platforms (iPhone, Ipad), just as the original Daily Bible Devotion is already.

I hope to hear from folk and please share this across your LinkedIn and Facebook networks.
